After investing in an iPhone 5, one of the first things you will want to do is to buy a case to protect your iPhone 5 from knocks and scratches. There are a number of different types of iphone 5 accessories to choose from, the three main ones being: leather, plastic and silicone/rubber.
This type of case usually comes in the form of a pouch which you slide your iPhone 5 into. Because of this, it offers better screen protection than plastic or silicone cases. However, depending on the specific design, you will have to either remove your iPhone 5 from its case entirely or flip the cover in order to access the screen. This could be annoying if you need to get to your phone quickly, not to mention the risk of damaging your phone if you drop it whilst it is out of its case. Also, the case can become loose over time, increasing the likelihood that your iPhone 5 will fall out.
This is probably the most common type of case, with the widest variety of designs. The best thing about plastic cases is that they are hard and are usually very thin and lightweight, so they will fit snugly against your cheap iphone 5 covers like a second skin. When you are holding your phone with this type of case, it will feel close to having no case at all, although there are some cases which are textured.
The one type of iphone 5 skins to be weary of is the slider style case which comes with a top and bottom part which you slide together. As you push the two parts together, dirt and grit can become trapped, scratching the back of your iPhone 5 - exactly what a case is supposed to prevent. The other thing to look out for is any flimsy parts around the buttons and ports, e.g. the volume control. Because the case is made of hard plastic, these areas can break or snap off easily when fitting or removing the case, if it is poorly made.
These are soft cases, with a rubber-like texture. One advantage is that they tend to offer more shock protection than cheap iphone 5 accessories . Furthermore, because they are soft, they will not scratch your iPhone 5. However, if you decide on this type of case, make sure that it is not too soft otherwise it will not fit tightly enough to stay on.
The other good thing about silicone is that it has great grip, so it is less likely to slip out of your hand or fall off a table. Nevertheless, this grip could become annoying when you are pulling your iPhone 5 out of your bag or pocket as it has a tendency to become stuck and pull other things out with it.
There are a couple of other points to consider, regardless of what material the case is made of. Firstly, you should consider whether you need to remove the case in order to fit your iphone 5 cases into a docking station. Also, does the case interfere with access to the ports and buttons? For instance, with plastic and leather cases, the cut-out around the volume control and silent switch can be very narrow, making it difficult to operate these functions, and on some cheap iphone 5 cases, the screen-off button can be completely covered, requiring you to press on the case to activate the button. If the case is very rigid, you will have to press very hard, which can quickly become an inconvenience.
